Billy Idol is coming to West Yorkshire!

For many of us, the only time we get to see the Rock icon Billy Idol in action is when the missus puts on her dvd of 'Wedding Singer' and we see him bouncing Glenn down the isle of the plane heading to Vegas! But the legend himself has lined up a UK arena tour for June 2022 with very special guests The Go-Go’s and will do six dates climaxing with a trip to West Yorkshire.

The Roadside Tour 2022 opens at Glasgow The SSE Hydro on Saturday 11 June 2022 and moves on to Manchester AO Arena calling at Birmingham Resorts World Arena, London The O2 and Cardiff Motorpoint Arena before it's last stop at Leeds First Direct Arena on Tuesday 21 June 2022.

As you'd expect the tour will see Billy perform both new music and classics from his career that started in 1981 as a solo artist and spanned 4 decades - and excitingly he will be joined by long-time lead guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens at each and every show in the UK.

Billy Idol said: “I can’t wait to get back on the road in the UK again and enjoy that exhilaration and energy that only comes from playing in front of a live British audience.”

As with every tour, the undercard is hugely important - which is why Billy Idol will be joined by special guests The Go-Go’s who are making their first UK appearance in more than quarter of a century on the tour.

The Go-Go's said: “We are thrilled to be sharing the stage with Billy Idol on his 2022 summer UK tour dates.

“We haven’t had an opportunity to play for our British fans in 26 years and can’t wait to see you all.”

So the important bit...

Eagle eyed fans will have spotted that the tour is named after Billy Idol’s four-song collection launched earlier in September, ‘The Roadside EP’ - his first new music for 7 years.

As with a lot of artists, Billy wrote the EP during the pandemic and it was inspired by his near-fatal motorcycle accident in 1990. He told us: “It seemed quite logical and natural to write something about my motorcycle accident. I may have been saying, well, this is what people go through when they are in trouble. I think I was unconsciously making that connection. Certainly, the motorcycle accident was the catharsis, the wake-up moment. Maybe I left behind the irreverent, youthful Billy and opened the door for a more attentive father and more sensitive musician. Something did get left by the roadside, but it was not necessarily a bad thing in the end.”

Backing up Billy Idol and Steve Stevens on stage, the touring band will be made up of Stephen McGrath (bass, backing vocals), Billy Morrison (guitar, backing vocals), Paul Trudeau (keyboards, backing vocals) and drummer Erik Eldenius.
